Here at The Harrogate Wedding Lounge, we’ve always got our finger firmly on the bridalwear fashion pulse. And so, to bring you up to date with the key looks you can expect to see gracing bridal blogs and magazines – and hanging upon the pretty rails of our North Yorkshire bridal boutique – our Founder & Head Stylist, Hayley Hoyle, shares six of the biggest wedding dress trends for 2023.

During the past couple of months, we’ve been busy unboxing our designers’ latest designs, arriving at the boutique following our dress selections from their amazing new collections. We always make our buying decisions as a boutique team to ensure we cover all personalities, fashion preferences and tastes, resulting in a curated mix of gorgeous shapes and styles.

And our latest arrivals continue to tick this box whilst reflecting the season’s top bridal fashion trends, with gowns ranging from simplistic styles in captivating materials to glamorous showstoppers that are anything but subtle!

While certain silhouettes, styles and details are carried through from year to year, we love to see new trends reinventing bridal classics and putting a fresh spin on existing elements whilst bringing innovative and exciting design techniques to the table.

Along with revealing the biggest bridalwear looks for 2023 in this post, I’ll also be spotlighting handpicked wedding dresses from our latest collections that effortlessly radiate each of the trends.

Modern Simplistic

A trend said to have been initially sparked by the pared-back, small-scale weddings that took place during the pandemic, simplistic-style gowns are continuing to gain momentum. Not just reserved for more modest celebrations, the latest minimalist dress designs fuse bold silhouettes with luxurious fabrics for effortlessly impactful and breathtaking looks. They’re far from being deemed boring or traditional, with up-to-the-minute design elements carefully woven throughout for regally chic creations with incredible structure. Look out for those with square, straight and drop shoulder necklines, strong clean lines, architectural pleats and deep V-backs.

Ballgown Resurgence

Not that it ever went away, but the much-loved bridal ballgown is back with serious style for 2023. A wedding dress trend emerging from couples’ post-pandemic desires to go BIG on their celebrations, this voluminous silhouette is enjoying a design revival thanks to its association with grand, lavish and extravagant “I dos”. So, what form does it take for new-age opulent weddings? Well, the overall look is still one of unapologetic decadence, but heavy embellishment and detailing have taken a backseat for 2023. Instead, we’re seeing strong silhouettes in plain, heavy and luxurious materials as well as those crafted in aforementioned unusual fabrics. The ballgown is then brought further up to date with fashion-forward necklines, defined pleating and detachable sleeves.

Daring Leg Slits

This 2023 bridal fashion trend will be sweet music to your ears if you’re looking to make a strong bridal statement during your moment in the big-day spotlight. Delivering a fresh way to flaunt a little flesh, we’re seeing daring leg slits creep into multiple new collection designs, from structured ballgowns and relaxed A-lines to slinkier columns and fit-and-flare silhouettes. Adding instant impact to more minimalist gowns, this sultry design element is likely to send your heart into overdrive if your dream dress wishlist features the words “flirty”, “fashionable”, “youthful”, “modern”, or “sexy”.

Statement Sleeves

The latest bridal catwalks have been awash with dresses featuring eye-catching sleeves that elevate gowns to a whole new level of swoon. From capped, three-quarter and full-length beauties to puff, bell and flared designs, there are options to suit all wishes. Some are simple, crafted in the same fabric as the rest of the gown, while others see designers getting experiential with sheer and contrasting fabrics, upping the texture and depth. Better still, detachable sleeves are on the rise, offering brides two looks in one, perfect for those holding multiple wedding celebrations or seeking to switch up their style from ceremony to reception.

Tullecore

If your bridal attire vision is one of full-on fairytale vibes, then the ‘Tullecore’ 2023 wedding dress trend is likely to be right up your sartorial street! Seen in all silhouettes, from billowing princess ballgowns to chic sheath dresses with cascading trains, this dreamy bridal fabric is the epitome of ethereal romance. We personally love to see it layered up to create voluminous skirts with heavenly movement and have fallen head over heels for styles adorned with enchanting 3D floral appliques. You can also expect to see this of-the-moment fabric in glittering, shimmering forms and in soft, muted hues beyond traditional ivory.
